Sacramento Coalition for Working Families
Sacramento Coalition for Working Families (SCWF) was created in 2005 by then-California Assembly Member Dave Jones to promote the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) in the Sacramento region after learning that approximately $35 million worth of tax credits was going unclaimed each year. When Dave Jones was elected California Insurance Commissioner, SCWF became a program of Community Link Capital Region. The Coalition has grown into a diverse partnership of non-profit organizations, public agencies, schools, financial institutions, ethnic and faith-based community organizations, and corporate sponsors.
SCWF has grown from a primary focus of promoting and increasing awareness of EITC to providing Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) programs and now providing access to relevant financial planning programs for those who use the VITA program.
Using the VITA/EITC program as a gateway, the Coalition offers information on affordable and accessible financial services such as bank accounts and Financial Workshops. SCWF also offers information on financial literacy training, asset building opportunities and so much more so residents may maximize the use of EITC funds.
The mission of the SCWF is to strengthen working families by connecting them to a variety of underutilized resources in the communities in which they live and work. SCWF helps promote programs such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), free tax assistance for income-eligible families, and financial planning training.
