HandsOn Superior California

In 1998, Community Link, then Community Services Planning Council, and a group of committed volunteers created Hands On Sacramento in response to an identified need for a full-service volunteer action center to serve as a hub for mobilizing the voluntary spirit of people in the region.   Hands On Sacramento inspires and helps people create positive changes in individual lives, neighborhoods and the region through meaningful volunteer action.  Today, Hands On Sacramento matches more than 16,500 volunteers annually with service projects that support youth, help people move out of poverty, improve our environment, and more.  Hands On Sacramento also hosts region-wide Days of Service during the year, including Martin Luther King Day of Service.

HandsOn Superior California Programs and Services

Business Works

The Business Works program was designed to provide a continuum of consultation, marketing, and custom volunteer project development opportunities for businesses in the Sacramento Region. Working with our non-profit partners, Hands On Sacramento can develop customized volunteer efforts that engage a desired number of employees in issues most important to a company.

Corporate Volunteer Council

Hands On Sacramento supports the work of the Corporate Volunteer Council (CVC) of the Sacramento Region.  The CVC is a regional coalition of companies that promote and participate in employee volunteerism.  The mission of CVC is to enhance the quality of life in the Sacramento Region by promoting employee volunteerism to address issues of community concern.

Volunteers in Disaster

In disasters and emergencies, Hands On Sacramento is designated by the County of Sacramento to manage and coordinate the volunteer response through activation of the Hands On Sacramento Emergency Volunteer Corps and management of the Emergency Volunteer Center.  Throughout the year, Hands On Sacramento coordinates the regional Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD).

Managed Projects

Managed projects are volunteer opportunities that Hands On Sacramento creates, supports, and manages in non-profit agencies throughout Sacramento. Trained Volunteer Project Leaders communicate with volunteers prior to the event and oversee the project while it is happening. Hands On Sacramento currently manage several volunteer projects, with more being added over time. All managed projects:

      • Happen on a regular, recurring basis
      • Involve direct hands-on service
      • Are group opportunities for 4 or more people
      • Are led by a trained Project Leader
      • Allow volunteers to serve when and how often they want

If you are interested in helping us expand the program by becoming a Project Leader or Partner Agency, please contact us at projects@handsonsacto.org for more information.
